I’m embarking on a fun and interesting project that will feature some hummingbirds surrounded by an engraving style of leather carving. The late Monte Beckman piqued my interest in this style of leather carving 17 years ago and although I particularly like the California style I keep coming back to this engraving style and letting it have a greater influence in my work. Hummingbirds are pretty common where I now live and they remind me to “slow down” as their presence hearkens back to how I operated a great deal of my life. Even though my heart rate never exceeded 1000 beats per minute (average for a hummingbird) I felt I sometimes tried to match their work rate. I’ve just finished the design and execution of the fenders and will keep posting more as I get time to continue developing this project. Enjoy….
